How does the weather affect your skin? As the weather changes from hot and humid to cold and dry, your skincare routine should change with it. The environment outside can alter your skin’s needs, so how do we adapt?

How Seasonal Changes Affect Your Skin

Seasonal shifts require more than just swapping out your wardrobe. The way your skin feels and reacts can be significantly affected by seasonal weather changes. Whether it's an unexpected rainy day or the transition of summer turning to fall, knowing how to adapt your skincare routine ensures your skin remains vibrant and healthy.

Autumn Skin Care Tips

The emphasis of a  fall skincare routine should be balance. The unpredictable nature of fall, with its sudden cold mornings and sometimes warm afternoons, calls for a dynamic approach to skincare. Here are some essential fall skin care tips that cater to the unique challenges this season presents:

  • Morning Routine: Typically, it is best to use a gentle cleanser in the morning, giving your face a fresh start for the new day. Add a lightweight moisturizer with SPF to hydrate without feeling heavy and protect you from UV rays. Use an under-eye stick to tackle those dark circles when you wake up.
  • Mid-Day Refresh: With the unpredictable temperature fluctuations in the fall, we suggest bringing face wipes with you to clean your face throughout the day as needed, especially for the oiliest part of your skin, the T-zone.
  • Night Time Routine: When you get home and ready for bed, we suggest a Charcoal Face Wash to wash the day away. Follow this up with a Face + Eye Cream, and  Ultra-Hydrating Lip Balm. The goal is to lock in the moisture before bed, so the magic can happen while you sleep. Keeping the face light throughout the day keeps you feeling fresh and non-greasy, especially when the temperature fluctuates so much.

Adjusting Your Skincare For Winter

How does an autumn skincare routine differ from winter’s? When transitioning fall skin care routines for winter, the theme is clear: hydration. The cold, dry winter air doesn't hold back, and neither should you when it comes to moisturizing.

  • Hydration is Key: While the gentle cleanser remains a morning staple, the importance of a face lotion can't be understated during winter. It provides the added moisture barrier your skin craves.
  • Specialized Care: Introducing a nightly Renewal Serum can be a game-changer. Its hydrating properties complement the lip balm and face lotions from your fall routine, ensuring maximum hydration. Don’t forget: you still need SPF in the winter! Snow can reflect up to 90% of UV radiation.
  • Consistent Favorites: Stick to the Charcoal Face Wash, Wake Up Eye Stick, Face + Eye cream, and Lip Balm. They remain essential in keeping your skin balanced during winter's harshest days.

Winter is much colder and drier. That means adding moisturizers morning and night. We are less worried about the sweat from humidity this time of year, and more worried about dry skin.

Spring & Summer Skincare:

As we welcome the warmer months, our skincare needs to evolve. The increased humidity, stronger sun, and outdoor activities require a fresh approach.

  • UV Protection: No matter the season, a daily SPF is essential for providing protection from the sun's harmful rays. If you are planning to spend a lot of time outdoors grab a Hydrating Antioxidant Sunscreen Spray. The antioxidant properties help combat the oxidative stress from increased sun exposure, while the extra hydration boost defends against the drying effects of the sun.
  • Exfoliation: Exfoliation is important year round to remove dead skin, which keeps your pores clearer and helps prevent breakouts and ingrown hairs. Exfoliation is especially important in the summer, though, when we tend to secrete more oils and sweat more, both of which can clog pores. Try an acid based exfoliant, like the Glycolic and Salicylic Acids in our Anti-Everything Pads, or a physical exfoliant like our skin-buffing Charcoal Face Wash. You may also want to add a clarifying mask to your routine to soak up excess oil, like our Oil Attacker Face Mask
  • Year-Round Staples: A lightweight moisturizer is an essential product. It will keep your skin hydrated without making it feel oily, especially in the heightened humidity of summer. Using a good cleanser is also a good year-round choice as it helps remove accumulated dirt, sweat, and pollution, resetting your skin each day and prepping it for the care to follow.
