FAQ

The main ingredient you want to avoid putting on your underarms is aluminum, although that is found in antiperspirants rather than deodorants. In deodorant specifically, watch out for parabens, phthalates, triclosan and alcohol. You may also want to pay attention to baking soda, which is the base in many natural deodorants, as it may cause skin irritation.
In general, by switching from an antiperspirant to a natural deodorant. Antiperspirant prevents you from sweating by using aluminum to plug up the pores that release sweat. Deodorant doesn’t clog your pores or prevent them from releasing sweat. Instead, a good natural deodorant will absorb sweat once it’s been released while also reducing body odor.
Cornstarch is one of the best base ingredients for a natural deodorant. It’s great at absorbing sweat and has a silky feeling, whereas an ingredient like baking soda has a powdery texture. Baking soda also has a higher pH level than cornstarch, which can result in dryness and irritation on the skin. Aloe is another great ingredient. It helps prevent irritation and acts as an antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiseptic.
